Softball Heading to North Georgia for NCAA Regionals

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The regional rankings and placements were announced for the 2012 NCAA Division II Regional Tournament by the NCAA. Conference Carolinas Tournament Champion King College will head to North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, Ga. to take part in the Southeast Regional Tournament, held May 4-6.

King earned the No. 8 seed and will be one of four teams playing the first regional round. The pool of opponents includes No. 5 Columbus State, No. 4 Augusta State, and top-ranked host North Georgia. The Lady Tornado (34-17) will play North Georgia (45-8) at on May 4 at 6:00 p.m. Depending on the outcome of the game, King will return to the diamond at either 1:30 or 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 5. All games are being played at Haines and Carolyn Hill Stadium.

North Georgia is currently ranked 11th in the country while Columbus State received 15 votes in the latest poll, placing them 28th. King is the only Conference Carolinas school represented in the Southeast Regional Tournament.

The Lady Tornado advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament by winning four games and the Conference Carolinas Tournament. They defeated Queens University of Charlotte in a 12-inning thriller before eliminated host Coker College and then defeated top-ranked North Greenville University twice to clinch the program and College's first Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship. Four Lady Tornado were named to the All-Tournament team and pitcher Hannah Light was named Tournament MVP.
