BRISTOL, Tenn. – Chrissy Melcher has added another award this week as she was named Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Week. The junior capped her stellar week in amazing fashion, only making five outs as she led King to a 5-0 record at the Pioneer Classic over the weekend.
Riding a 12-game hitting streak dating back to February 8, Melcher had five multi-hit games in King's 5-4 week. She went 18-for-32 (.562) with seven runs scored and seven runs batted in on the week, but did most of her damage at the Pioneer Classic hosted by Tusculum College over the weekend.
In five games, Melcher went 14-for-19 (.737) with three doubles, a triple, seven runs batted in, and six runs scored. She slugged 1.000 at the three-day event and had multiple hits in all five games, including four three-hit games. She was 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, and three runs scored against UVa-Wise in a 5-1 win on Sunday. Her season batting average is .521, which leads the conference among hitters with 20 or more at-bats. She is also tops in slugging at .771 and leads the conference among hitters with at least 15 at-bats with a .558 on-base percentage.
The Tornado open Conference Carolinas play on Saturday when they travel to Erskine College. First pitch from Due West, S.C., is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. King then faces USC Aiken on Sunday afternoon in Florence, S.C.
