Tornado close regular season with split against LC

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University softball team split their final regular season doubleheader dropping game one and taking game two from Limestone College. The Saints took game one 4-2 before Rachel Farmer threw a shutout, giving King the 4-0 victory in game two.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jenna Burnett paced the offense with four hits and four runs batted in.
  • Kay Brokering drove in two in game two and ripped her 11th home run of the season.
  • Casey Gilbert recorded three hits and scored two runs on the day.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Both teams threatened early, Limestone with two runners in the first and King with a pair of runners in the second.
  • However, neither team was able to push any runs across.
  • Limestone broke through in the third in Vic Brewington drove in Ashley Parnell with a sacrifice fly.
  • Brewington made it a 2-0 lead with a single that scored Lindsey Mason in the fifth inning.
  • King answered with a pair of runs in the fifth as Burnett came up with a two-out, two-run single up the middle.
  • However, Limestone regained the lead in the sixth when Madison Chappell ripped a two-run home run.
  • The King offense couldn't respond as the Saints took the game 4-2.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Tornado took the lead in the first inning as Burnett ripped a two-run single up the middle that scored Gilbert and Kaycee Casteel.
  • King took a 3-0 lead as Brokering was hit by a pitch in the second inning with the bases loaded.
  • Brokering gave King a 4-0 lead when she ripped a home run in the fifth.
  • That was all Farmer needed in the circle as she tossed her second complete game in as many days and her fourth shutout of the season.

  • Chappell ripped a home run and drove in two in the opening game as well.
