Men’s Volleyball and Women’s Basketball to Host Summer Camps

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King College men's volleyball and women's basketball programs will be hosting youth summer camps in July. Registration is current open for both camps and can be done online.

The Tornado men's volleyball team will host their youth camp from July 22-25 for boys ages 10-17 years. Campers will receive instruction from members of the King Tornado team and staff that will improve overall skill, technique, and team play. The four-day camp includes meals, housing on campus, and a free-shirt for $300. Registration is currently open and can be completed and paid for online by clicking here or by downloading the camp brochure and sending the bottom of the form completed to the address below. Campers must register by July 9, 2012.

King Men's Volleyball finished second in Conference Carolinas in 2011, produced two All-Conference players in 2012, and had one alum begin a professional volleyball career in Puerto Rico.

For ladies ages 7-17, the King College women's basketball team will be hosting its summer camp to teach those more than just the game of basketball. From Monday, July 9 to Friday, July 13 campers will learn the fundamentals of shooting, dribbling, passing, defense, in addition to core qualities of teamwork, sportsmanship, and the importance of character on the court. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on each of the five days. The camp will be led by coaches Josh Thompson and Shelly Yount (bios below). The camp will be help in the Student Center Complex, on the campus of King College.

Cost of the five-day camp is $125 in addition to a $25 registration fee. Each camper will receive a free t-shirt and at the end of the camp, team awards will be distributed. Josh Thompson bio

Josh Thompson has 15 years summer camp experience and 10 years head coaching experience at the Division II level. He played point guard at Nyack College in New York for four years. He won the MVP of the conference tournament his senior year. He also won the CACC conference title as a player and a coach. Thompson led his team to the NAIA national tournament his senior year and coached his team to NCAA DII National Tournament in 2010. Thompson won the CACC Coach of the year honor in 2010.

Shelly Yount bio

Shelly Yount played basketball under Josh Thompson at Nyack College for four years. As a player, she was a captain for three years and helped her team win the CACC conference regular season title as well as the tournament title her last season. She has three years camp experience as well as two years college coaching experience at the DII level. She was also a lifeguard and swim instructor for eight years and holds certifications in lifeguarding, CPR, AED, and conscious/unconscious obstructed airway.
