Lady Tornado Charge Comes Up Just Short at Limestone

Bonnie Durrett had 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Tornado effort against the top team in the conference.

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Trailing by 11 against conference-leading Limestone with 2:38 left, King went on an 8-0 run to cut the Limestone lead to 65-62 with 31 seconds to go.  However, the Saints made their final six free throws, and the Lady Tornado rally came up just short, losing 71-62.

King never led and trailed by as many as 19 in the second half, but gave a valiant effort to get back into the game.  Sophomore Bonnie Durrett (West Paducah, Ky.) led the Lady Tornado with 12 points and 13 rebounds and was one of seven players to score at least six points for King.

King now sits at 12-11 (8-11 Conference Carolinas), but still holds a one game lead over Lees-McRae for the all-important eighth spot in the conference.  Only the top eight teams make it to the Conference Carolinas Tournament next month.

Maria Young scored 25 points to help Limestone improve to 21-2 (18-1) on the season.

The Lady Tornado have a crucial three-game home stand to conclude the regular season.  The first of these matchups will be at the Student Center Complex against Coker on Saturday, February 23 with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m.  The men's game will follow to conclude the doubleheader.
