Mitchell's big week leads to conference weekly award

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team won a pair of Conference Carolinas contests last week behind guard Whitney Mitchell, and the league recognized Mitchell's performance on Monday. Mitchell scored at least 20 points in each contest and was selected Conference Carolinas Player of the Week for the first time this season.

For the first time in her career, Mitchell posted consecutive games scoring at least 20 points, both coming in Conference Carolinas victories. The Oak Ridge, Tenn., native started the week with a season-high 26 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the floor and 9-for-13 from the free throw line, leading King to an 88-74 win at Erskine College. Mitchell also matched her season-best with six assists in the contest. She closed the week with 21 points and four assists in a 69-67 victory over Barton. For the week, Mitchell led King with averages of 23.5 points and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the floor.

Mitchell and the Tornado are in action again on Wednesday in the Student Center Complex when the take on regional rival UVa-Wise. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
