Thompson, West selected for trip to Poland with Athletes in Action

Bristol, Tenn. – King University women's basketball sophomore center, Kori West has been selected to compete with Athletes in Action this summer in Warsaw, Poland. The team will consist of other college players from across the country. Tornado head coach, Josh Thompson has been selected to coach the team. They will be traveling with the team from May 20-June 4.

West finished her sophomore season this year as the leading scorer and rebounder for the Tornado. The 6-4 center averaged a double-double, scoring 12.5 points and grabbing 10.6 rebounds per game. She also led the team in field goal percentage (53.8), free throw makes (76), free throw attempts (139), and blocked shots with 29. The Shelby, N.C., native played an integral role in leading King to a 17-13 record and a third straight appearance in the Conference Carolinas Tournament championship game. Following the season she was selected second team All-Conference Carolinas.

Thompson finished up his seventh season at the helm of the Tornado in 2017-18. In 2016-17 he led King to their most successful season as an NCAA Division II member, finishing with an overall record of 25-7, and a 19-3 mark in Conference Carolinas. The Tornado won their first Conference Carolinas Tournament championship defeating Limestone College. That win gave King their first berth into the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship. Thompson was named Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year honors, and his 100th win at King came in the conference championship contest. In his career at King, Thompson has an overall record at King of 117-86.

They will be traveling to Warsaw, Poland where they will partner with the Poland Athletes in Action staff by playing against local professional teams, and conducting clinics. The main objective is to build relationships with local women's basketball teams and others in the community to share the Gospel, spread the Athletes in Action movement in Poland, and identify new leaders who will continue the spiritual movement in Poland.

Each member of the team is asked to raise a portion of the team's financial goal, which will cover food, lodging, travel, and other team expenses. If you are interested in helping support Coach Thompson and Kori West you can do so by here for Coach Thompson: and here for West:
