Thompson announces 2019 signing class

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University head women's basketball coach, Josh Thompson has announced his 2019 signing class. Thompson and his staff announced the signing of six student-athletes that will join the Tornado this fall.

"I am very excited about this recruiting class," Thompson said. "We have addressed many of our needs on the basketball court and most importantly brought in some high character people to our program. I think this group of young women will come in and work hard on the court and in the classroom and help us continue to grow into a more competitive basketball program."

Amaya Lee

Guard
Virginia HS; Bristol, Va.

Lee helped the Bearcats four regular season conference championships and three conference tournament championships. In 2018, Virginia High School finished as Region D runner-up, qualifying for the state championship final four. In both her sophomore and junior seasons she was named first team all-conference, first team all-region and second team all-state. As a senior, Lee was selected Southwest District co-Player of the Year and first team all-region. As a junior, she set the single game assist school record before breaking the single season and career assists records as a senior.

Jada Campbell
5-7
Guard
Virginia HS; Bristol, Va.

Campbell helped the Bearcats four regular season conference championships and three conference tournament championships. In 2018, Virginia High finished as Region D runner-up, qualifying for the state championship final four. Individually, Campbell was a three-year all-conference selection, earning first team honors as a senior while she also garnered second team all-region honors. She ranks fifth all-time at Virginia High in scoring, pouring in more than 1,000 points in her career. As a senior, she also won the James Byron Farmer Best Female Athlete Award and was a Gene Pappy Thompson Award nominee.

Cooperstown Central School; Cooperstown, N.Y.
University of Albany

Ford joins the Tornado after one season at the University of Albany where she appeared in eight games for the Great Danes. She scored four points and added eight rebounds. In high school she helped Cooperstown Central to four conference championships and one state title. She was selected NYS MVP in 2016.

Lexi Campos

Guard
William Blount HS; Greenback, Tenn.
Eastern Kentucky University

Campos joins the Tornado after spending a season at Eastern Kentucky University. She played in five games for the Colonels, scoring six points and grabbing two rebounds. In high school she helped William Blount High School to four regional and district tournament appearances, finishing third at the district tournament in 2018. Campos was a four-time all-district selection and scored more than 1,000 career points.

Megan Miller
5-11
Forward
Cosby High School/Gatlinburg High School; White Pine, Tenn.

Miller helped her team to back-to-back first place district and region finishes in 2016 and 2017, taking third at state in 2017. In 2018, she was a member of a district champion and third place region finish before winning district and regional championships in 2019 along with making a sub state appearance. Miller was a four-time all-district selection, earning district MVP and all-region honors in 2018. Following her senior season, she was selected a McDonald's All-American and traveled to Italy with the USA Overseas team and won the Wendy's State Heisman.

Symantha Fugate
5-9
Guard
Science Hill High School/Daniel Boone High School; Gray, Tenn.

As a freshman, she helped her team to conference and district championships. During her senior year, helped her team to conference and regional championships, advancing to the sub state championships. She was an all-conference and all-district selection along with an FCA All-Star. In a three-year career, she scored 734 points and grabbed 461 rebounds.
