NEW LONDON, N.C. - The King College women's golf team fired an opening round 398 at the Pfeiffer Falcon Cup Monday.
The Lady Tornado will begin Tuesday's final round at the Badin Golf Club in ninth place in the team standings. St. Andrews (N.C.) Presbyterian University used a 380 to land at No. 8. North Carolina Pembroke captured the team lead with a team score of 309, two shots ahead of Wingate (N.C.) University.
King got an opening round 93 from Manda Minor (Bluff City, Tenn.). Kirby Jones carded a 98 with Chelsea Gammon (Blountville, Tenn.) shooting a 103. Karissa King (Rockwood, Tenn.) and MalorieMcBride (Brentwood, Tenn.) both fired a 104.
Three golfers share the individual lead with a 74, North Carolina Pembroke's Meghan Moore along with Ashley Denton and Samantha Pugh-Gilder from Wingate.
The course, a Par-70, played at 6,057 yards for the competitors.
