Lady Tornado Golf Finishes Eighth in First Tournament

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Women's golf completed the final round of their opening tournament of the season on Tuesday. The Lady Tornado finished in eighth place at the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by Carson Newman College.

Two of the four Lady Tornado golfers that took to the links on Tuesday improved their score from the previous day. Both Cortnee Young (Cleveland, Tenn.) and Esther Gandarias both shot an 87 on the final day of the tournament. Young improved her score by two strokes and finished in a tie for 35th place in the tournament. Slightly behind her, Gandarias improved by seven shots from her Friday score card and finished 40th overall.

Anna Walker (Marion, Va.) finished 41st with a two-day total of 183 while Kerby Jones finished in a tie for 45th (186).

King, as a team, finish eighth in front of Conference Carolinas members St. Andrews Presbyterian College and Barton College. The University of West Georgia (722) and North Georgia University (720) finished just in front of King by less than seven strokes.

Shorter University took the crown in the tournament with host Carson Newman finishing fourth.

King women's golf next competes in the Tusculum Fall Classic at Links Hill Country Club (Greeneville, Tenn.) in a two-day tournament.
