Deral (pronounced Duh-RELL) joined the Tornado staff prior to the 2019-20 season. In his first campaign, Brown guided three individuals to NCAA Men's Wrestling Championships qualifications. In his second year on campus, Brown guided two more individuals to the NCAA Men's Wrestling Champioships, having one earn All-America honors.

Year-By-Year Season Recaps
2020-21: The Tornado went 5-4 in duals, posting a 4-2 record to finish fourth in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas matches. Trent Mahoney, Christian Small and Cadey Ridley all earned all-conference honors. Small and Ridley qualified for the NCAA Championships with Small earning All-America honors after finishing fifth.
2019-20: The Tornado posted a dual record of 3-9, going 2-5 in SACC duals. At the NCAA Super Region II Championships, King finished seventh and had five placers, including three in the top three. Rylee Billings, Elijah Seay and Cade Ridley all finished third at the Super Region II Championships and garnered second team All-SACC honors. The NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Elijah Hicks and Cory Collins each finished sixth at the Super Region II Championships.
Prior to King
Brown spent the 2018-19 season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Newberry, helping led the Wolves to a South Atlantic Conference Carolinas championship with a 6-0 league record. The Wolves went 12-3 in duals and sent seven wrestlers to the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships with three earning All-America honors to lead the Wolves to a ninth place finish.
Prior to Newberry, Brown served as an assistant coach at SUNY Cortland in Cortland, N.Y. from 2016-18. In that time he helped the Red Dragons finish seventh in the NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championships. Over those three years, Brown has coached 16 national qualifiers, six All-America honorees, two national finalists, and one national champion. He has also mentored 12 student-athletes that have garnered academic All-America honors.
In his career at Newberry, Brown was a two-time national qualifier, earning All-America honors in 2013 when he finished fourth. He is tied for the most wins all-time at Newberry with 143 and is the all-time leader with major decisions. While at Newberry he also attended the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Leadership Academy.
Following graduation, Brown served as the head coach at Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, S.C. form 2014-16. While there he was named South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) Coach of the year for the 2015-16 season after winning a state championship.

Brown earned his degree from Newberry in 2013 and a Master's degree in sports management from SUNY Cortland in 2018.
