First-half goals from Shankles gives King a 2-1 road win

TIGERVILLE, S.C. - King College used a pair of first-half goals in a 2-1 win at North Greenville (S.C.) University Saturday in the Lady Tornado's final regular season contest of the season.

The victory boosted the Lady Tornado to 5-12 while North Greenville slipped to 10-6.

The opening score for King came from Abigail Shankle (Bristol, Va.) for her first collegiate goal. Sister Hannah Shankle (Bristol, Va.) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 43rd minute. For Hannah it was her seventh goal of the season which ties the high mark on the team.

Abbey Kitts (Tazewell, Va.) played in goal for King and picked up her fifth win.

The Lady Tornado will have to wait to see how the postseason will play out with the NCCAA Mid-East Region bracket which will be announced Tuesday. Potential first-round games would be played Saturday at the higher seeds. The semifinals and championship contests are scheduled for Nov. 19 and 20.

The one-goal win was the third for King this season in five matches decided by a score.

King and North Greenville will meet again in 2011 as members of Conference Carolinas.

The North Greenville score came in the 55th minute.
