DAYTON, Tenn. - King College picked up a 4-3 women's soccer victory at Bryan (Tenn.) College Saturday for the first Lady Tornado road win of 2010.
The Lady Tornado improved to 3-8 overall and 1-5 in road contests this season. Bryan went to 7-5-1. Saturday's one-goal difference was the fourth straight time King had beat Bryan by a lone goal. The victory was also the first one-goal win of the season for the Lady Tornado after winning by two and three goals in the other two wins. King had only played in one other one-goal contest, a 2-1 loss at Limestone (S.C.) College on Sept. 29.
Morgan Shelton (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Hannah Shankle (Bristol, Va.) and Devon Shanklin (Knoxville, Tenn.) all provided a score for King in the contest. The fourth goal was an own goal put into Bryan's net themselves. For Shelton it was her team-high sixth goal of the season with Shankle having No. 5 and Shanklin's first of 2010. Shankle got an assist on her score from Abigail Shankle (Bristol, Tenn.) on a score in the early moments of the second half.
Shanklin's score proved to be the game winner as Bryan posted a goal in the final minute of play.
King also improved the road scoring with the four goals after just posting two goals in the first five road contests of the season. The four goals also match the season high which came two weeks ago against Young Harris (Ga.) College.
Next for King will be a 2 p.m. contest Wednesday at home with Carson-Newman (Tenn.) College.
