Concord Tops Lady Tornado in 1-0 Affair
Despite Morgan Lawson making a career-high 12 saves, the Lady Tornado failed to score leading the Concord Mountain Lions to a 1-0 victory.

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Mountain Lions scored a goal early in the second half of Friday afternoon's game and held on to that advantage in a 1-0 win over King. Keeper Morgan Lawson made a career-high 12 saves in the effort.

King and Concord put on an even amount of shots in the first half, seven each, but the Mountain Lions exploded for 12 shot attempts in the second half. Their second shot of the second half proved to be the different maker. Erika Hoff scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Alyanna James, in the 60th minute to give Concord a 1-0 advantage.

The Mountain Lion defense kept King to just four shots in the second half, none of which were on target. Only two of King's 11 shot attempts were on goal. Conversely, freshman goalkeeper Morgan Lawson (Goodview, Va.) was kept busy, facing 19 total shots against and making 12-of-13 saves. Her 12 saves set a new career-high in her fourth game between the posts.

King falls to 4-7-2 overall on the season following the nonconference match with Concord (8-6-2). They jump back into league play with an away contest with rival Lees-McRae on Oct. 23 in Banner Elk, N.C. It is their last conference match of the year with playoff implications on the line.
