King in third, set three school records on day one of CC Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The King University women's swimming team had a solid first day at the Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships. The Tornado are in third place and set three school records on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED – FRIDAY

  • Ashley Woods set the school record in the 1000 yard freestyle with a second place time of 10:49.47.
  • In the 50 yard backstroke, Samantha Davis set the school record with a time of 28.04 seconds.
  • The 200 yard medley relay team of Davis, Gwen Haag, Nicola Mead and Madi Matthews set the school record with a third place time of 1:50.58.
  • In the 200 individual medley, Haag and Alexia Autrey both set personal records.
  • Haag touched the wall in 2:30.89 and Autrey finished in 2:23.74.
  • Four personal records fell in the 50 yard freestyle. Brooke Williams finished in 25.13 seconds while Michelle Morlock finished in 26.79 seconds.
  • Mallory Davis came in with a 50 yard freestyle time of 27.80 seconds and Alessa Locke finished in 29.39 seconds.
  • Matthews finished third in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.32 seconds.
  • Mead set a personal best in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:47.55.

"Great first day of racing for King Swimming with six team records and multiple lifetime bests," head coach James Graves said. "Conference Carolinas has a great spirit of competition and all the teams here are having a blast. This is a long meet and will be a great test for our team both mentally and physically. We will have to continue to show up with focus and team comradery to bring out the best in each other. I'm looking forward to some more great races tomorrow with the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 4x50 and 4x100 medley relays. Go Tornado!"
