Tornado fall to Mars Hill

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's tennis team dropped a tough dual to Mars Hill University. The Tornado dropped the nonconference affair with Mars Hill 5-2.

  • The Lions took the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches.
  • Vanessa Francois and Lauren Smorgonsky took a 7-6 (7-0) victory at the second flight over Sophia Pelaez and Victoria Franklin.
  • In singles play Marylin Roustand shined for the Tornado by defeating Evan Lake 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the top flight.
  • Francois also was a highlight for King as she edged Julianne Launay in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
  • However, the Lions won the final four singles matches to take the dual 5-2.


  • King will be in action again on Wednesday at Montreat College at 2:30 p.m.
  • Mars Hill visits Milligan College on Tuesday.
