Henry breaks own hammer throw school record at Liberty Invite

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Nearing the Conference Carolinas Championships, the King University women's track and field team continues to improve throughout the outdoor season. This weekend at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational, Maegan Henry set a school record while five other personal records fell.

Henry bested her own hammer throw school record of 43.10 meters, which she set at the Charlotte 49er Classic on March 22. On Friday, the junior posted a mark of 44.30 meters to take 12th place in field that had more than 30 competitors, many of which were NCAA Division I athletes.

Also in the hammer throw, Melissa Arnold set personal best with a toss of 36.81 meters. Christina Atkinson set a pair of personal records on the weekend, staring with a mark of 27.43 meters in the discus, and ending with an outdoor personal record with a shot put of 10.61 meters.

Tabby Arwood also set a pair of personal bests on the weekend, first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:44.99. She then posted a time of 5:18.66 in the 1500 meters for another personal best. Eliza Parker turned in a solid performance in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing in a time of 11:43.10 to take second place.

The Tornado have one last tune-up before the Conference Carolinas Championships, next week at the Beynon Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina University. The meet is scheduled to take place on April 11-12.
