WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The King University women's track and field team was back in action for the first time on an outdoor track. Highlighting the performances for the Tornado was Eliza Parker in the 5000 meter and Shelbie Burchfield in the High Jump.
King had multiple runners running the 1500 meter race where Maddy Carmody earned a 22nd place result with a time of 5:07.11, a new personal best. Maggie Edwards came in behind Carmody with a time of 5:13.98, a new personal best as well.
One of the highlights of the day came in the 5000 meter when Parker earned a 13th place finish with a new personal record of 18:00.72. Amelia Martin notched a personal best time of 18:38.81 in the same race to earn a 30th place finish.
In the high jump, Burchfield finished first of all King participants with a jump of 1.55 meters to finish in 12th place. Bree Cassidy and Whitney Roberts came in behind Burchfield with marks of 1.40 meters and 1.25 meters respectively. Roberts also completed the triple jump in 29th place with a jump of 9.54 meters. Sidney Jackson followed Roberts with a mark of 9.44 meters. Finishing the day up for the Tornado was Maegan Henry registering a throw of 37.70 meters in the discus.
The Tornado will be back in action next on Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28 at the Raleigh Relays and Winthrop Invitational.
