BANNER ELK, N.C. – The King University women's track and field team were back in action at the Conference Carolinas outdoor championships. Standing in second after day one, the Tornado look to make the jump into first, however, it did not go as planned as King completed the event in fourth. Leading the way for the Tornado was Maegan Henry and Eliza Parker.
Leading the way for the Tornado was Henry who registered two first place finishes, a second and a fourth. Her first gold medal came in the discus with a throw of 36.37 meters, with the other coming in the shot put with a mark of 13.64 meters. In the hammer, the senior recorded a school record throw of 47.75 meters, earning a second place finish. Finally, in the javelin, Henry notched a throw of 30.88 meters, a fourth place finish. Head coach Amanda Williamson was quoted saying "She killed it", about Henry.
Parker was the other headliner for the Tornado when she earned a second place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a mark of 11:54.05. The senior impressed again the 5000 meter with another second place result, a time of 19:15.47.
Jordan Jennings was quick on the track with two personal records, the first coming in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.72, a new personal best and a third place result. The freshman followed that performance up with another personal best in the 200 meter dash with a mark of 26.03, finishing in fifth.
Back in the field events, Burnett notched a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 4.96 meters, a sixth place finish. Whitney Roberts posted three personal records of her own, the first coming in the long jump with a mark of 4.95 meters, finishing in seventh. In the triple, Roberts moved up one place notching a jump of 10.60 meters. Finally in the javelin, Roberts recorded a throw of 24.88 meters to finish in ninth.
In the discus and shot put, Christina Atkinson and Deeanna Luchini set more personal records. Atkinson's personal record came in the discus when she finished in fifth with a throw of 33.29 meters. Luchini earned her first personal best in the discus with a throw of 29.49 meters. The next personal record came in the shot put with a mark of 9.56 meters.
The Tornado finished in fourth as team. The University of Mount Olive, Limestone College and Barton College finished as the top three.
