King sweeps UVa-Wise for win No. 25 of 2010

WISE, Va. - King College picked up a 3-0 sweep at UVa-Wise Thursday for the Lady Tornado's 25th win of the season.

The Lady Tornado used set scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-23 for the victory. The decision boosted King to 16-2 in three-set matches this season and 25-8 overall.

Morgan Machen (Kingsport, Tenn.) had a team-best 17 kills. It was her fourth highest total of the season. Sarah Van Goethem (Aurora, Colo.) added 11 kills for her seventh double-digit kill total in the last 10 matches.

Rachel Harding (Abingdon, Va.) totaled 16 digs.

Joscelyn Knott (Lake Mary, Fla.) provided 23 assists with 21 by Shannon Earwood (Carson City, Nev.).

In the first meeting against UVa-Wise of 2010, on Sept. 14, King won with a similar 3-0 score, 25-15, 25-12 and 25-15.

With the victory, fourth-year head coach Chris Toomey has won 25 matches in each season giving him a career record of 109-44. The Lady Tornado also have won seven straight over UVa-Wise in regular season play.

UVa-Wise slipped to 11-22 on the season.

Next for the Lady Tornado will be a trip across the state line to play Virginia Intermont College Friday at 6:30 p.m.
