Lady Tornado wins twice in W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - King College picked up two women's volleyball wins Friday in the opening day of the University of Charleston (W.Va.) Invitational. The Lady Tornado started with a 3-2 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan followed by a 3-0 sweep of West Liberty University.

In the West Virginia Wesleyan match King won the first two games with similar scores of 25-15 and 25-15. West Virginia Wesleyan took the next two 25-18 and 25-22 before King won game five 15-5. The Lady Tornado posted scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-21 in the West Liberty contest.

Morgan Machen (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 23 kills in the two contests with 21 kills from Kaitlyn Musick (Weber City, Va.). Musick also recorded eight blocks.

Shannon Earwood (Carson City, Nev.) provided 82 assists on the day and Rachel Harding (Abingdon, Va.) had 37 digs.

The two wins boosted King's record to 6-1.

King concludes the invitational Saturday with an 11 a.m. meeting with Bluefield State (W.Va.) College before a 3 p.m. match against host Charleston.
