Lady Tornado starts ESU State Farm Classic with wins

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - King College went 2-0 on the opening day of the East Stroudsburg State Farm Classic on Friday with victories over C.W. Post and Queens (N.Y.).

The C.W. Post victory was by a 3-2 score. King took the opener 25-19 before a 20-25 setback. The Lady Tornado rebounded 25-22 but C.W. Post forced a fifth set thanks to a 25-20 win. King held on for a 15-13 fifth set win, the second of the 2010 season.

The Queens contest was the seventh 3-0 sweep of the season for King. The scores were 25-20, 25-20 and 25-18.

Morgan Machen (Kingsport, Tenn.) reached the 20-kill mark against C.W. Post as she hit .410 in the contest. She ended the day with 14 kills in a .565 hitting percentage contest in the Queens matchup. Machen also had four total blocks in the two matches.

On the day Shannon Earwood (Carson City, Nev.) had 76 assists including 51 in the C.W. Post contest. Earwood also had 11 digs in the opener for her second straight double-double. She added four kills against Queens.

Ashley Pittman (Norris, Tenn.) totaled 25 kills on Friday with 16 against C.W. Post. Kaitlyn Musick (Weber City, Va.) had 10 kills in the C.W. Post meeting.

Rachel Harding (Abingdon, Va.) provided 20 digs against C.W. Post along with three aces with a dozen digs in the Queens contest. Natalie Brown (Brentwood, Tenn.) added 10 digs in the C.W. Post match.

King closes out the event Saturday with contests against Molloy and Bentley.
