King hands Montreat 3-0 loss in Lady Tornado's home opener

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The King College women's volleyball team opened the home portion of the 2010 season with a 3-0 sweep Wednesday over Montreat (N.C.) College.

With the win, King improved to 4-1 on the season and sent Montreat to 3-3. It was also the 12th straight victory over the former Appalachian Athletic Conference foe in a streak going back to the 2005 season with seven sharing similar 3-0 scores.

The first two sets were 25-20 scores with the final going to King 25-12.

King got 10 kills from Ashley Pittman (Norris, Tenn.) with seven each from Morgan Machen (Kingsport, Tenn.), Kelsey Griffitts (Bristol, Va.) and Kaitlyn Musick (Weber City, Va.).

Shannon Earwood (Carson City, Nev.) provided 28 assists while Rachel Harding (Abingdon, Va.) recorded 18 digs.

As a team the Lady Tornado hit .247.

King will travel to the University of Charleston Invitational in Charleston, W.Va. this weekend. Friday's action has the Lady Tornado playing West Virginia Wesleyan and West Liberty (W.Va.) University.
