Machen picks up NCCAA Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week honor

GREENVILLE, S.C. - King College's Morgan Machen was named the NCCAA Women's Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts at the NCCAA Nationals, the organization announced.

Machen, a senior from Kingsport, Tenn., led the team at the NCCAA National Championships with 55 kills in 13 sets for a 4.23 kills per set average over four matches in pool play. She started with a dozen kills against Campbellsville (Ky.) University Thursday. Later in the day against Southeastern (Fla.) University, she posted 14 kills. On Friday, she had 11 kills in an upset over No. 2 seed Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University. She finished her collegiate career with 18 kills against Trinity Christian (Ill.) College. Machen had just 24 errors in 150 attempts for a .207 hitting percentage.

She helped King to a 2-2 pool play record, but the Lady Tornado fell short of reaching the semifinals. Overall King went 32-11 in 2010, the third 30-plus win season since 2006.
