Path for King Women's Volleyball at NCCAA announced

GREENVILLE, S.C. - King College has been given the schedule for the upcoming NCCAA Division I Women's Volleyball National Tournament as the Lady Tornado open pool play against a familiar foe on Dec. 2.

The Lady Tornado, the No. 7 seed for the event, will play No. 3 Campbellsville (Ky.) University at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2. King, with a 30-9 record, and Campbellsville met for the Mid-East Region championship Saturday and Campbellsville pulled out a 3-1 decision. Both King and Campbellsville were at the 2009 NCCAA National event, but did not face each other as Campbellsville, at 30-10 in 2010, went onto win the NCCAA National Championship.

Next for King will be a 4 p.m. meeting against No. 10 Southeastern (Fla.) University. Southeastern has a 24-14 record. The Lady Tornado ended last year's national with a 3-0 sweep of Southeastern in pool play.

King starts day two on Friday with a 10 a.m. match with Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University. Mount Vernon has the No. 2 seed thanks to a 41-4 record. The Lady Tornado upended top-seeded Mount Vernon last season 3-2.

Pool play closes for King against Trinity Christian (Ill.) College, the No. 5 seed, at 2 p.m. Friday. Trinity Christian has a 28-8 record before the national starts. This will be the first meeting between King and Trinity Christian with fourth-year head coach Chris Toomey at the helm of the Lady Tornado program.

On the other side in Pool A, Indiana Wesleyan University got the event's top seed. Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.) University, Colorado Christian University, Trinity International (Ill.) Univeristy and Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) University are also in the pool.

The top two teams from each pool will meet in semifinals contests on Dec. 4 with the NCCAA National Championship match scheduled later in the day at 4 p.m.

King qualified for the program's seventh trip to the NCCAA National Tournament as an at large team. The Lady Tornado has reached national tournaments for three straight seasons and four out of the last five. The 2008 and 2006 squads both played in the NAIA National Tournament.
