Tipton Named Defensive Player of the Year, Three to All-Conference Teams
Payton Tipton garnered Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year honor while Summer Kremer and Olivia Underwood also were named to All-Conference teams.

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Payton Tipton was named the Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year the league announced on Friday.  The sophomore was also named to the All-Conference Second Team, as was Summer Kremer, while Olivia Underwood earned Third Team honors.

Payton Tipton (Cleveland, Tenn.) has 437 total digs this season and has the second-most in conference play with 226.  Tipton has been all over the court for the Lady Tornado as she has had seven matches this season with at least 20 digs and is averaging 3.90 digs per set (fifth in the league). Her season-high of 25 digs came against Francis Marion, which was just three short of her career high.  Tipton also leads the Lady Tornado in with 41 service aces for the season.

Summer Kremer (Mills River, N.C.) leads the conference in kills by 42 with 438, and is second in the league with 3.71 kills per set.   The sophomore has had double-digit kills in 25 of her 31 matches this season, including a stretch at one point of double-digit kills in 18-of-19.  Kremer has registered at least 20 kills four times, including a career-high 27 kills at Mount Olive. She currently ranks 42nd in NCAA Division II in kills per set (3.71) and is fifth in total kills.

Olivia Underwood (Pearland, Texas) has been the primary setter for King this season, posting 901 total assists for the season.  Her 8.42 assists per set is good enough for fourth in the conference.  Underwood has also been an asset on defense with 179 digs this year (1.67 digs per set). 

Tipton, Kremer, Underwood, and the rest of the Lady Tornado will face Belmont Abbey in the Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals on Saturday.  First service in Belmont, N.C. is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
