Kern takes TSWA Player of the Week award

BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the third time this season, a King University women's volleyball player has been named Tennessee Sportswriters Association Player of the Week. This week, King's Maribeth Kern earned those honors after leading the Tornado to a 4-0 week last week.

The Buchanan, Va., native collected 17 kills and 15 digs in a 3-1 victory over Limestone College, her sixth double-double of the year. The sophomore followed that with 11 kills at Lees-McRae College and added five kills and six digs versus Johnson C. Smith. King has won 18 consecutive matches after losing 3-of-4 to begin the season.

For the week, the sophomore posted 33 kills and 24 digs, an average 3.30 kills and 2.40 digs per set. She is second on the club with 184 kills and 199 digs in 72 sets played.

The Tornado have a slow week this week as their only match its on Tuesday night when they host North Greenville University at 7:00 p.m.
