Women's Volleyball announces promotions for Friday night's match

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team hosts Belmont Abbey College in a key early season Conference Carolinas match as it serves as the conference opener for both teams. To go along with the action on the court, the team has announced two promotions for fans to enjoy during the match, Community Night, as well as 70's Night.

Friday has been designated Community Night, and King invites all members of the Bristol community to come to the Student Center Complex for the 7:00 p.m. first serve. Admission to the match will be free, and a serving contest for the fans will take place between the evening's second and third sets.

The match has also been designated 70's Night. Pregame warmup music will consist of retro hits and fans are encouraged to dress in their favorite 70's attire. Following the match, prizes will be awarded for the best costume.

"Community Night is a great opportunity for our team to get more people excited about volleyball at King," assistant coach Heather Claussen said. "I'm excited to see some of the great 70's outfits people will be wearing. It will be a night of very competitive volleyball in which we hope to have a great crowd of support."

Belmont Abbey, who received seven of ten first place votes, en route to being selected first in the preseason Conference Carolinas poll, will attempt to defend its first-ever conference title from a season ago. King was picked second in the preseason rankings, receiving the remaining three first place votes. The match could prove to be pivotal in determining seeding and home-court advantage throughout the conference tournament in November.

"Friday night will be an exciting way to open our Conference Carolinas 2013 schedule," said head coach Chris Toomey. "The opportunity to play the defending champions and a preseason favorite on Community Night is great for our program. It will be a great night of competition and a fun environment to watch volleyball. We hope the King community will come support the Tornado."
