BRISTOL, Tenn. – Prior to the start of the Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Championship semifinal matches, the league held a banquet to announce their all-conference selections. Julie Ward was selected Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year and first team all-conference and Tristyn Lozano garnered third team honors.
Ward has had a spectacular first year on campus, ranking second in the league with an average of 3.56 kills per set. Her 320 total kills rank fifth in the league and she ranks ninth with an attack percentage of .217. The Berthoud, Colo., native was also solid on the defensive end, averaging 3.51 digs per set with a total of 316 digs. She leads the Tornado with 13 double-doubles on the season. She has posted her career-high of 17 kills twice this season and registered a career-high 22 digs against Mars Hill. Ward is the second Tornado to be selected Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year, joining Becca Huddleston in 2016.
Lozano also earns all-conference honors for the first time in her career. She has been one of the most prolific servers in Conference Carolinas this season. She currently ranks third in the league with an average of 0.43 aces per set and fourth with 53 total aces. Offensively, the Murfreesboro, Tenn., native ranks third on the team with an average of 2.02 kills per set. She is also having the best defensive year of her career, averaging 2.70 digs per set and 0.45 blocks per set. Lozano has posted her first career double-double with 11 kills and 19 digs against Southern Wesleyan. She has followed that with four more double-doubles for a total five, all coming in the last nine matches for the Tornado.
King is in action on Saturday evening at 5:00 p.m. when they take on north division top seed Belmont Abbey College in the conference semifinal
