Championships come for Lady Tornado wrestlers at Missouri Valley Open

MARSHALL, Mo. - The King College women's wrestling team picked up three weight division championships at the Missouri Valley College Open Saturday.

Alli Ragan (Carbondale, Ill.) was able to knock off defending national champion Amberle Montgomery, from Oklahoma City University, in 75 seconds for the 63 kilogram championship. Ragan, the No. 3 seed won three times to reach the finals.

Lisa Martinez (Amarillo, Texas) picked up the 44 kilogram bracket championship with a 4-0 decision over Oklahoma City's Brianna Rahall. Martinez got to the championship after a tech 10-0 margin over Ofelia Valdez, from Wayland Baptist (Texas) University.

Marina Lambert (Chesapeake, Va.) wrestled to the 90 kilogram championship. Teammate Amber Floyd (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) was second in the 80 kilogram division.

Emily Martin (Frisco, Texas) got to the 48 kilogram championship match, but lost 8-1 to Oklahoma City's Nicole Woody, the bracket's top seed. To get there she picked up a 1-0 decision against Amantha Hordagoda. Martin also beat Missouri Valley College's Ariel Green in 38 seconds.

Stacy Martin (Frisco, Texas) also wrested in a championship match, the 51 kilogram contest. In the semifinal she had to beat teammate Sarah Anderson (Schuylerville, N.Y.) 5-2. Anderson did win the third-place match.

Victoria Nguyen (Johnson City, Tenn.) also had a 51 kilogram victory before losing to top seed and eventual champion Joey Miller, from Oklahoma City. Nguyen ended up sixth through the consolation bracket.

A first-round defeat handed to Kayla Bartosch (Triangle, Va.) did not stop her from rebounding. The freshman won twice for a sixth-place finish in the 55 kilogram bracket.

Hanna Martin (Oklahoma City, Okla.) worked her way in the 59 kilogram division to a fourth-place finish. Teammate Shana Prifte (Shoreham, N.Y.) was seventh thanks to a pair of victories. Martin had three wins in the consolation bracket.

Tasha Galarza (New Britain, Conn.) won twice, but was seventh in the 67 kilogram bracket.

The Lady Tornado travels to wrestle the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) Tuesday at 7 p.m. King beat Cumberlands 34-7 on Oct. 23 in Bristol to start the season.
