Hildebrandt takes silver, Molinari 5th at World Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – The King University women's wrestling duo of Sarah Hildebrandt will be returning from the World Championships with some hardware. Hildebrandt finished with a silver medal and Molinari finished fifth.

Hildebrandt, the top seed at 53 kilograms started with a 5-1 victory over three-time World medalist Jyldyz Eshimova of Kazakhstan on Wednesday. She advanced to the semifinals with a 15-9 victory over Anzhela Dorogan of Azerbaijan to take on Diana Mary Weicker of Canada.

Hildebrandt came away with a 10-0 technical fall over Weicker, advancing to the finals where she faced 2017 World champion Haruna Okuno of Japan on Thursday. In the match, Okuno jumped ahead early and didn't slow down, taking the goal medal on an 11-0 technical fall.

The silver for Hildebrant was her first World silver medal, and the third from a Tornado alumna. Alli Ragan won the previous two silver medals.

Molinari started with a 4-0 victory over Leidy Izquerdo Mendez of Colombia at 65 kilograms. However, she fell to Danielle Lappage of Canada 6-2. Lappage then reached the finals to bring Molinari back to face Mariia Kuznetsova of Russia.

Molinari came up with a pin in 5:25 to reach the bronze-medal match on Wednesday night. The match was tight the entire way, but Molinari fell to Iryna Netreba of Azerbaijan on criteria. The score ended even at 1-1, but Netreba won on criteria by scoring the last point, giving Molinari fifth place.
