#5 Tornado come back, reach NWCA National Duals semifinal

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The King University women's wrestling team returned to the mat on Friday at the NWCA National Duals. The fifth-ranked Tornado fell behind No. 12 University of The Cumberlands early, but rolled off five straight victories to take the win 24-20 and advance to the semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Patriots won the first three matches to open up a 12-1 advantage after the bout at 116 pounds.
  • Briana Kellin got the Tornado going with a pin of Ashley Tobe in 1:34 at 123 pounds.
  • At 130 pounds, Cheyenne Sisenstein followed with a 10-0 technical fall over eighth-ranked Bridgette Duty.
  • Nicole Joseph gave King the lead when she pinned fifth-ranked Kellyann Jimenez in 5:05 at 136 pounds.
  • Ashlynn Ortega and Ana Luciano stretched the Tornado advantage to 23-12 with back-to-back technical falls.
  • Ortega topped Samantha Croker 11-0 at 143 pounds, and at 155 pounds, Luciano defeated Isabella Ricchiazzi 10-0.
  • Cumberlands won the final two matches, but King took the match 24-20.
