Ortega finishes third at WTT Challenge Tournament

RALEIGH, N.C. – The King University women's wrestling program had a pair of current wrestlers and an alum compete at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament over the weekend. Ashlynn Ortega led the contingent with a third place finish.

Ortega dropped her first match in the semifinals at 68 kilograms to Jayden Laurent, but came back with a pair of wins, 7-3 over Kayla Marano in the consolation semifinals and 9-0 over Skylar Grote in the third place bout.

Allison Petix dropped both of her matches at 57 kilograms, including a Kelsey Campbell who finished third.

Alum, and current assistant coach Julia Salata finished third at 65 kilograms.

The winners of the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament advanced to the Final X, where the winners will make up the 2019 Team USA World Team. Final X is a best-of-three series.

King has three alums that will compete at the Final X. Forrest Molinari '17 will face Maya Nelson at 65 kilograms on June 8 in Piscataway, N.J.

Sarah Hildebrandt '15 and Alli Ragan '14 will both compete on June 15 in Lincoln, Neb. Hildebrandt will face Katherine Shai at 53 kilograms while Ragan squares off with Lauren Louive at 59 kilograms.
