BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's wrestling team opened their season at home 3-0. The Tornado defeated Ferrum College 48-0, Presbyterian University 37-8 and Tiffin University 36-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED – FERRUM COLLEGE

  • Jaclyn McNichols got the Tornado rolling with a dominant first-period tech fall, not allowing her opponent to score a single point.
  • A host of Ferrum forfeits allowed King to increase the advantage to 38-0
  • Next for King, Ashlynn Ortega continued the trend, putting together a tech fall in the second period, also allowing zero points for Ferrum
  • Final score; King 48, Ferrum 0

HOW IT HAPPENED – PRESBYTERIAN UNIVERSITY

  • McNichols started King off with an extremely close match.  After battling and trailing for the first two periods, she managed a huge takedown to exposure to take the lead 9-8.  From there it was all McNichols.  With one minute remaining she scores two takedowns for a strong decision 13-8.
  • Makayla Welch picks up the next win for King, with a dominant victory 10-2.
  • Allison Petix, Nicole Joseph, and Ashlynn Ortega all take consecutive victories by fall in less than a minute.
  • Next was easily one of the closest matches of the day.  Ana Luciano came out early with an incredible sweep single to finish, and the action did not stop there.  In total there were 3 lead changes and 3 takedowns were scored in the last minute alone, but Ana Luciano came out on top with the 10-10 victory by criteria.
  • The matchup at 170 proved to be no less exciting.  After trading takedowns and an epic positioning battle, Hailey Cancelleri pulls out the decision with a 3-3 victory by criteria.
  • Final score; King 37, Presbyterian 8

HOW IT HAPPENED – TIFFIN UNIVERSITY

  • Tiffin took the lead early with a pin from Trinity Oredina.
  • From here it was all King University as Lesley Hernandez evens the score with her own first period pin.
  • Next for the Tornado Ashley Gomez comes out strong, racking up a flawless victory by tech fall and giving King the lead 9-5.
  • Phoenix Dubose continues the streak with an absolutely dominate 90-second pin.
  • Alyssa Aceval also follows suit with another first period win by fall.
  • Joseph continued the win streak with another flawless, first-period tech fall
  • Ortega follows up with a sub one minute pin, extending the King lead to 28-5
  • Luciano continues to bring the punishment, putting together a vicious win by tech fall in 45 seconds
  • The last match was yet another tech fall attributed to Cancelleri
  • Final Score; King 36, Tiffin 11
