King Cross Country schedules announced for 2010

BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College head men's and women's cross country coach Peter Dalton has finalized the 2010 schedule for the Tornado and Lady Tornado.

The schedule starts Sept. 3 when King travels to the Covered Bridge Open in Boone, N.C. King will look for a repeat of early-season success as both the men and women won at the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. last year.

King added the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic on Oct. 2 to the schedule. The event in Louisville, Ky. had 38 teams in the men's race last year and eight of the Top-10 were NCAA Division I squads. The 2009 women's race featured 35 teams and 13 NCAA Division I teams finished in the Top-15.

A pre-NCAA Division II Southeast Region meet, the Royal Cross Country Classic is scheduled for Oct. 15 in Charlotte, N.C. On Nov. 20, the NCAA Division II Southeast Region will be held on the same course. Births to the NCAA Division II National Championship on Dec. 4 in Louisville will be up for grabs at the region. Dalton, in his third season at the helm of the King programs, will look to take King to the nationals in King's first year as a full NCAA Division II member.

In between King's races in Charlotte, the Tornado and Lady Tornado will close out the regular season in Charlottesville, Va. at the Cavalier Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia on Nov. 5.

Last season, as a provisional NCAA Division II member, The King men's and women's squads' achieved a 21-2 and 21-1 record respectively against NCAA Division II competition. The Tornado finished fourth at the 2009 NCCAA National Championship while the Lady Tornado ran to fifth at the event. In addition during the season both the men's and women's school records were broken.
