Personal bests starts 2010 for King cross country

BOONE, N.C. - The King College men's and women's cross country teams started the 2010 season Friday at the Covered Bridge Invitational and three personal bests were established against a talented field.

Daniel Hamilton (Franklin, N.C.) ran to a personal best thanks to a 20 minute and 49 second run. Naseem Haje (Hagerstown, Md.) followed with his personal best of 20:58 and Justin Humphryes (Bristol, Tenn.) had a run of 21:06.

The Tornado was able to finish 10th in the team standings in a tie with NCAA Division I squad East Tennessee State University. The men's championship went to North Carolina with Florida State University and East Carolina University in the mix.

Danielle Beauvais (Danville, Va.) led the Lady Tornado charge with a time of 19:21 which was the 38th fastest time in the event.

Freshmen Kendra Sokol (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Evan Ferrell (Richlands, Va.) had impressive opening times in their first collegiate race.

The Lady Tornado finished 10th in the team standings. North Carolina won the women's race followed by Wake Forest and Appalachian State. East Tennessee State was also at the event, but no team score was posted.

King has the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic scheduled for Oct. 2. The event will be at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
