BRISTOL, Tenn. – Conference Carolinas announced their academic all-conference performers for cross country, leading up to the conference championship next weekend. King University had five runners honored, two from the men's team and three from the women's team.
On the men's side, Tyler Edwards and Daniel Kovalchick earned honors. This marks the second time that each has been named academic all-conference. Kovalchick owns a 3.65 GPA and he ran an 8k personal-best 27:26 earlier this season at the Royals XC Challenge. Edwards has a GPA of 3.50 and he has competed in one race for the Tornado, running 32:23.4 at the 12th Annual Sand Shark Invitational.
On the women's side, Hannah Kusmierz earns academic all-conference honors for the second season, carrying a 3.78 GPA. Her season-best 5k time of 19:40 came at the Royals XC Challenge. Brianna Barrett and Kaitlin Rivera both earn academic all-conference accolades for the first time. Barrett carries a GPA of 3.65 while Rivera owns a 3.93 GPA. Barrett has improved every race this season, posting a 5k personal record of 21:37.3 at the 12th Annual Sand Shark Invitational. Rivera posted her season-best 5k time of 19:37 at the Royals XC Challenge.
Conference Carolinas academic all-conference teams are comprised of junior and senior student-athletes who have competed in a conference-sponsored sport and maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale in all work completed at their member institution.
The Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championship is scheduled for November 3 in Mount Olive, N.C. The women's race will start at 10:00 a.m. and the men follow at 11:00 a.m.
