Joshua L. Bessinger was appointed as Assistant Coach for King University Women’s Soccer in August 2026, bringing a well-rounded background in both youth player development and collegiate athletics to the Tornado program. Bessinger’s experience as a coach, educator, and event coordinator, combined with his advanced academic training, positions him as a dynamic addition to the coaching staff.
In his role at King, Bessinger assists with all aspects of the women’s soccer program, including on-field coaching, recruiting, and player mentorship. Drawing on his U.S. Soccer Grassroots Coaching Licenses (9v9 and 7v7), he specializes in creating structured and engaging training sessions that promote both skill development and positive team culture. Bessinger’s excellent communication skills—honed through experience leading youth teams and coordinating large-scale NCAA events—enable him to effectively connect with student-athletes, parents, and program stakeholders alike.
Prior to joining King, Bessinger served as Head Soccer Coach for Tri-Cities United Soccer League, where he led youth teams, managed all aspects of training and communication, and fostered a supportive, inclusive environment for athletes ages 10-12. He contributed to NCAA Division I fan engagement and marketing initiatives as a Graduate Assistant at East Tennessee State University, where he also led student project teams, coordinated major events, and developed promotional materials for the sport management program. His organizational and leadership abilities were further demonstrated as Tournament Volunteer Coordinator for the Big South Conference, managing volunteer operations for NCAA basketball tournaments.
Bessinger’s professional experience also includes a role as Consumer Sales Intern at Bristol Motor Speedway, where he applied customer relationship management skills to generate over $400,000 in revenue and ensure positive fan experiences.
On the field, Bessinger competed as a student-athlete for King University Men’s Soccer from 2021-2024, giving him firsthand knowledge of the university’s athletic culture and expectations. He has also dedicated time as a volunteer leader with the Johnson City Gators, teaching children with disabilities about various sports.
A native of North Carolina, Bessinger earned his Master of Science in Sport and Recreation Management from East Tennessee State University in 2026, following his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from King University in 2024. His blend of coaching experience, leadership skills, and academic achievement makes him a valuable asset to the King University Women’s Soccer program.
