Tornado comeback to top North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The King University continued their streak of road games to start the season on Saturday when they squared off against Conference Carolinas foe North Greenville University. The Tornado didn't get off to a great start, dropping the first set, but the Tornado came back with a vengeance. King won the final three sets to take their first Conference Carolinas victory of the year 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • North Greenville took the first set 25-15.
  • The Tornado rebounded in the second set after battling back from a deficit. The teams traded points at the end of the set, but King came away with the 26-24 victory to even the set.
  • King got their offense rolling in the fourth set, hitting .387 in the frame en route to the 25-21 triumph.
  • In the final set the Tornado posted an attack percentage of .517, making only one error to take the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
  • Lauren Willoughby and Ashleigh Manke led King with 12 kills each. Willoughby added 12 digs for the double-doubles. Willoughby also hit .333 in the match, making just two errors.
  • Grace Underwood and Sarah Collins followed, both posting 11 kills. Collins was impressive on the offensive end as she only made one error and hit .556 with those 11 kills.
  • Running the offense, Olivia Underwood dished out 48 assists.
  • Amy Serowski led the King defense with 13 digs.

FOR THE FOES

  • Kenzie Pierce led North Greenville with 16 kills.
  • Yomi Adeyeye followed Pierce with 13 kills.
  • Hannah Lewis and Madison Pogue led the way defensively with 24 and 19 digs, respectively. Pougue added 42 assists for the double-double.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The double-double for Willoughby was her fourth of the year.

UP NEXT

  • King continues Conference Carolinas play on Wednesday when they travel to take on Lees-McRae College at 7:00 p.m.
  • North Greenville travels to take on Benedict College on Wednesday night.
