Tornado take sweep at Lees-McRae

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team evened their Conference Carolinas record on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 win at rival Lees-McRae College. The Tornado were led by a double-double from Olivia Underwood as King wrapped up their stretch of road matches to start the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • King grabbed the lead early in the first set and used a 4-0 run to stretch their lead to 16-9 in the middle of the frame. Ashleigh Manke ended the 25-18 set win with her fourth kill of the frame.
  • The momentum carried over into the second set as King opened up an 11-1 lead behind a 10-0 run capped by a Grace Underwood kill. The Bobcats came back and made things interesting at the end as King took the set 25-22.
  • The Tornado looked primed to take the sweep in the third set with a 24-20 lead, but the Bobcats scored three straight points to force a King timeout. Out of the break, Grace Underwood ended the match with her sixth kills of the match, giving King the 25-23 victory.
  • Manke led King with 10 kills.
  • Lauren Willoughby followed with eight kills to go along with 10 digs.
  • Olivia Underwood dished out 26 kills and added 15 assists for the double-double.
  • Libero Amy Serowski led the defense with 17 digs.

FOR THE FOES

  • Jariliz Cotte led Lees-McRae with 10 kills to go along with 11 digs for the double-double.
  • Madison Martin accounted for a match-high 21 digs.
  • Courtney Weathersbee posted 14 assists for the Bobcats.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The double-double marks Olivia Underwood's third of the year and second in Conference Carolinas play.

UP NEXT

  • King takes to the court again on Thursday night in their first home match of the year when they host Trevecca Nazarene University. First serve is slated for 6:00 p.m.
  • The Bobcats will travel to take on Wingate University on Tuesday.
