Box Score 2 ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The King University women's volleyball team took their first road tip of the season and dropped a pair of match to solid competition at the Flagler College Classic. The Tornado fell to Armstrong State University 3-0 in the morning before dropping a 3-1 decision to Wingate University in the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED – ARMSTRONG STATE
- Back-to-back kills from Ashton Beckner and Sydney Pigage gave the Tornado an early 4-3 lead in the first set.
- However, the Pirates answered with three straight points before the teams started going back-and-forth.
- Armstrong State held the advantage throughout, and Becca Huddleston pulled King within 17-16 with a kill.
- Nevertheless, Armstrong State scored the next three points, stretching their lead to 20-16 en route to a 25-18 victory.
- The Tornado again jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the second, only to see the Pirates comeback with three straight points.
- With the score even at 7-7, the Pirates scored four straight points to take control of the set and eventually take the set 25-16.
- The third set was the tightest set of the day as the Tornado grabbed an early 7-4 lead.
- However, the Pirates scored six of the next seven points to take a 10-8 lead.
- Armstrong State eventually opened their lead up to 18-12 before the Tornado started to work their way back.
- Trailing 24-19, King rolled off four straight points before the Pirates scored the final point to take the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
- Cathy Scaniffe led the Tornado with eight kills while Huddleston followed with seven.
- Haley Roe handed out 22 assists to go along with 10 digs for the double-double.
- Amy Serowski led the defense with 14 digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Raegan Grooms led the Pirates with 12 kills and 12 digs for the double-double.
- Brylie Barnette posted 11 digs and Carley Eiken posted 31 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED – WINGATE
- Wingate looked to set the tone in the first set, hitting .364 in the opening frame as they jumped out to a 7-3 advantage.
- The Tornado couldn't recover as the Bulldogs took the first set 25-18.
- King tried to turn the tide in the second set, using a 6-0 run to take an 11-7 lead. Huddleston started the run with a kill and she later teamed up with Jenna Sturgeon for a block that forced a Bulldog timeout.
- However, Wingate came back to even the score before the teams started to trade points and the Bulldogs grabbed the upper hand.
- The Bulldogs turned a 17-16 deficit into a 19-17 lead with a 3-0 run. From there, Wingate held the lead, taking the set 25-23.
- The King offense turned in what may have been their best set of the day, hitting .394 in the third set. Huddleston started a 6-1 run with a kill and added two more on the run to give King a 9-5 lead.
- The Tornado stretched their lead to 13-6 following a Scaniffe kill and she late gave King a 15-7 advantage with another kill.
- Scaniffe stretched the King lead to 18-8 with back-to-back kills before Wingate tried to make a run to get back in the set.
- Sturgeon later gave King a chance at set point, and Scaniffe followed with another kill to give the Tornado the 25-15 victory.
- King looked to stretch the match to a fifth set as they gained the advantage early in the fourth set. Roe served up an ace, giving the Tornado a 10-7 lead.
- The Tornado continued to hold the lead throughout until the Bulldogs went on a run late in the frame.
- Huddleston gave King a 19-17 lead with a kill before the Bulldog offense got rolling. Wingate scored eight straight points, taking the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
- Huddleston led the way for the Tornado, posting 14 kills and 12 digs for the double-double.
- Scaniffe followed with 13 kills and eight digs.
- Roe dished out 43 assists and eight digs while Serowski and Pigage added eight digs apiece.
FOR THE FOES
- Katie Bludau led Wingate with 14 kills while Abby Saehler followed with 11 kills.
- Rachel Alles handed out 35 assists and 10 digs for the double-double.
- Kimberly Hovey and Treslyn Ortiz posted digs each.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Huddleston matched a career-high with 14 kills and set a career best with 12 digs. The double-double was also the first of her career.
- Roe set a career-best with 43 digs, better her previous career-high of 40 set last weekend.
