Saint offense too much for Tornado

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Following a win on Friday night, the King University women's volleyball team squared off with Limestone College. The Tornado fell behind, but fought back with a run late in the third set, but King couldn't gain the lead, falling to the Saints 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tornado tried to get out to a hot start behind Becca Huddleston and Rebekah Hill who posted four and three kills in the set, respectively.
  • With Victoria Gause at the service line, King scored six straight points, and eight-of-nine points overall to gain a 9-6 advantage.
  • The Saints went on a 5-0 run, taking a 21-16 lead, but the Tornado came back and pulled within 24-23 on a block from Abby Anderson and Emma Carico.
  • However, Limestone scored the next point, taking the set 25-23.
  • The Saints jumped out early in the second set, taking a 7-2 lead behind a pair of kills from Rycki Ebert.
  • King later got kills from Kayley Holtzclaw, Anderson and Hill to on a 4-0 run that pulled the Tornado within 22-17.
  • However, the Saints scored three of the final four points to take the set 25-18.
  • In the third set, the Tornado were led by five kills from Huddleston and three each from Gause and Carico.
  • King erased a 22-18 deficit late in the third set with a 6-2 spurt fueled by a pair of kills from Huddleston along with kills from Gause and Carico.
  • However the Saints scored three of the final four points, taking the set 27-25 and the match 3-0.
  • Huddleston led King with 13 kills to go along with nine digs.
  • Holtzclaw and Hill followed with six kills each.
  • Anderson handed out 32 assists while Amy Serowski led the defense with 15 digs.
  • Sydney Pigage chipped in with 13 digs.

FOR THE FOES

  • Rycki Ebert led the way for Limestone with 14 kills and six digs.
  • Mia Bergan and Aidan Rohrer both handed out 16 assists while Alexis Dunbar led the defense with 15 digs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Hill set a career-high with six kills.

UP NEXT

  • King hosts the University of Mount Olive on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Barton College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
  • Limestone hosts Southern Wesleyan University on Tuesday evening.
