Box Score 2 HARROGATE, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team returned to action against a pair of regional rivals in the South Atlantic Conference-Conference Carolinas Crossover. The Tornado fell to Carson-Newman University to start the day before dropping a 3-0 contest to Lincoln Memorial University.

HOW IT HAPPENED – CARSON-NEWMAN
First Set
- Following a quick 3-0 spurt from Carson-Newman, the Tornado kept the first set close in the early going.
- However, a 5-0 run in the middle of the frame gave the Eagle separation as they took the set 25-14.
Second Set
- King tried to even the match in the second set, scoring the first three points behind kills from Abby Anderson and Rebekah Hill.
- The Tornado opened up a 9-3 lead following a kill from Tristyn Lozano that forced a Carson-Newman timeout.
- The King lead grew to 11-4 before the Eagles went on a run. Carson-Newman scored 10 of the next 13 points, evening the frame at 14.
- Carson-Newman tried to grab control late with a 3-0 run that gave the Eagles a 24-22 advantage.
- However, King held off a pair of set points, sending the frame to extra points.
- The teams traded points until Carson-Newman eventually scored back-to-back points, taking the set 30-28.
Third Set
- King again jumped out early, taking a 6-3 behind kills from Julie Ward and Georgia Davis.
- However, the Eagles rolled off four straight points to take the lead.
- Carson-Newman broke the set open when they broke a 14-14 tie with a 7-0 run.
- The Tornado didn't go away easy, however, scoring five straight points to pull within 21-19.
- It wasn't enough, however, as the Eagles went on to take the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ward led the Tornado with 16 kills and added 18 digs.
- Kayley Holtzclaw followed with eight kills.
- Sydney Pigage matched Ward's 18 digs to lead the defense while Lozano added 10 digs.
- Anderson handed out 35 assists.
FOR THE FOES
- Erin Edwards and Marnie Streeter led Carson-Newman with 10 kills apiece. Edwards added five blocks.
- Hannah Robertson accounted for 11 digs and Taylor Rohr handed out 19 assists.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The double-double for Ward is the first of her career.
- She also set a career-high with 18 digs.
- Lozano set a career-high with 10 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED – LINCOLN MEMORIAL
First Set
- King got out to a hot start, opening up a 10-4 lead following a 4-0 spurt that forced a Lincoln Memorial timeout.
- Ward had a pair of kills around a Pigage ace to close the run for the Tornado.
- The Tornado continued to hold the lead, and extended the advantage to 21-14 before the Railsplitters used another timeout.
- Lozano pulled King within two points of the set win with a kill as the Tornado led 23-16.
- However, Lincoln Memorial went on a run, scoring nine straight points to take the set 25-23.
Second Set
- The Railsplitters stayed hot in the second set, scoring nine of the first 10 points to set the tone.
- King climbed back within 13-8 following a Ward kill, but couldn't get any closer as the Railsplitter offense was too much.
- Lincoln Memorial went on to take the set 25-11.
Third Set
- The Railsplitters gained separation early thanks to a 7-2 run that opened up an 11-6 advantage.
- Trailing 16-9, the Tornado went on a run started by a Davis kill and Anderson ace.
- A block from Lozano and Davis pulled King within 16-14 and forced a Lincoln Memorial timeout.
- However, the Railsplitters regained the momentum out of the break as they went on to take the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ward again led the Tornado with a double-double, accounting for 10 kills and 15 digs. She also hit .360 in the match.
- Pigage followed on the defensive end with 12 digs while Lozano posted 10 digs for the second straight match.
- Anderson handed out 23 assists.
FOR THE FOES
- Emma Flowers led Lincoln Memorial with 10 kills and hit .391.
- Erica Whitaker registered a match-high 30 digs while Emily Walter handed out 28 assists.

- King stays on the road on Saturday as they travel to Greeneville, Tenn., to take on Mars Hill University at 4:00 p.m. and host Tusculum University at 6:00 p.m.
