Box Score BANNER ELK, N.C. – The King University men's basketball team defeated Carson-Newman University for the first time since 2011 on Saturday afternoon at Lees-McRae College. The Tornado defense held the Eagles under 40 percent shooting and Jordan Floyd led the King offense as he scored his 1,000th career point in a Tornado uniform.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
- The teams went back-and-forth for the first 10 minutes until the Tornado made a move.
- A Floyd three-point basket ignited a 12-0 Tornado run.
- Floyd connected again from long range before James Brown converted an old fashioned three-point play and Josh Releford gave King a 29-19 advantage with a triple.
- Carson-Newman came back to get within four on a couple of occasions, but King had an answer each time as they led 46-38 at the half.
Second Half
- King came out of the break and score seven of the first eight points to open up a 53-29 lead two minutes into the half.
- Floyd connected on a triple with 16:34 remaining to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau in his King career.
- That trifecta stated an 8-1 run that put the Tornado ahead 62-45 with 16 minutes remaining.
- Releford later gave King their largest lead of the game at 73-52 with a triple midway through the second half.
- From there, King cruised to the 94-73 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Floyd led King with 34 points for the second straight contest. He added four rebounds, four assists and five steals.
- James Brown followed with 15 points and six rebounds while Damion Ottman added 12 points and five rebounds.
- Releford posted 11 points and Mike Salomon led the team with nine rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
- EJ Bush led the Eagles with 15 points and eight rebounds while Richard Henderson posted 13 points and seven rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 34 points for Floyd is two off of his career of 36 which he scored in 2018 at Lees-McRae.
- Floyd now has nine 30-point games in his career.
- Floyd has scored 1,012 points at King and 1,234 in his career after he transferred from Albany State University.
