Brown, Norvell recognized by NCATA

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Following a season-opening win, two members of the King University acrobatics & tumbling team were recognized by the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA). Mattie Brown and Kharissa Norvell were both recognized as honorable mention player of the week and freshman of the week.

Brown, a senior top, base and tumbler from Taylorsville, N.C., competed in 11 heats as King picked up a victory over Limestone in a top 10 matchup last week. Brown helped King record seven scores of 9.0 or higher, including a 9.65 in compulsory toss, a 9.60 in sync pyramid, and a 9.375 in her solo tumbling heat, the aerial pass.

Norvell, a top, base and tumbler from Moro, Ill., competed in 11 total heats to help lead King to a dual meet victory over Limestone College. Norvell helped King to five scores of 9.0 or higher, including a 9.8 in the open pyramid, and a 9.65 in compulsory toss. Norvell also competed in the open tumbling pass, recording a score of 9.075 out of 9.600.

King returns to the mat on March 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Student Center Complex against Belmont Abbey College.
