King sweeps CC Swimmer of the Week awards

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University swimming teams swept the Conference Carolinas Swimmer of the Week awards this week. Dale Bruce took home Conference Carolinas Men's Swimmer of the Week while Ashley Woods was named Conference Carolinas Women's Swimmer of the Week.

Bruce had a solid meet for the Tornado, winning one individual event and narrowly finishing runner-up in two other events. He also helped the 400 yard medley relay team take first with a time of 3:33.86. Bulawayo, Zimbabwe native won the 200 yard butterfly by more than four seconds with a time of 1:58.21 before taking second in each the 200 yard breaststroke and 200 yard individual medley by less than one second. Bruce finished the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:14.88 and the 200 yard individual medley in 2:01.96.

Woods finished first in both of her individual events, setting one school record and helped the 400 yard freestyle relay finished first by nearly 10 seconds with a time of 3:48.73. She set the school record in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 18:05.05, winning the event by more than 40 seconds. The Keller, Texas native also won the 200 yard backstroke by more than six seconds with a time of 2:14.13.

This marks the first career award for Bruce and second career award for Woods. She also earned Conference Carolinas Swimmer of the Week honors on November 26. King also swept the swimmer of the week awards on November 26.
