Conference Carolinas Release
BRISTOL, Tenn. – James Brown of the King University men's basketball team can add an award to his mantle as he was selected Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's basketball.
The Lansing, Mich., native becomes the third player in program history to earn Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors and the first since Logan Lyle in 2014. Eddie Piccinni was a two-time recipient of the award in 2012 and 2013.
Earlier this spring, Brown was selected College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District. Brown carries a GPA of 3.70 wile majoring in Business Marketing.
On the hardwood, Brown was a second team All-Conference Carolinas selection this season. He was the second-leading scorer for the Tornado, averaging 13.7 points per game while grabbing 5.9 rebounds per game. He poured in a career-high 29 points in a win at Limestone College and posted his only double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Johnson University (Tenn.).
The Scholar-Athlete awards are presented annually to one individual in each Conference Carolinas sponsored sport. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year winners are chosen by the Conference Carolinas Student-Athlete Affairs Committee.
To be considered, a student-athlete must be a junior or a senior with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher. In addition, the nominees for the award must have been named all-conference in their sport and chosen academic all-conference.
