BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University men's wrestling senior Elijah Seay can add another award to his collection as he was named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
Seay, a senior from Goodview, Va., will graduate with a degree in physics and mathematics while carrying a 3.59 GPA. This season, Seay finished third in the NCAA Super Region II Championships, qualifying for the NCAA Wrestling Championships for the second straight year. The event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He finished the season with a record of 18-8 and nine pins. In his career, Seay went 69-35 with 28 pins, 11 technical falls and two major decisions at 197 pounds.
This marks the second time Seay has been honored as an NWCA as a Scholar All-American, last earing the honor in 2018. That year, current assistant coach Bryce Killian was also recognized. In 2011, Caleb Meyers was the first Tornado to earn NWCA Scholar All-American recognition.
Seay was one of 273 men's wrestlers to be honored, including 92 that were national qualifiers.
In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All-American Team, he must have a minimum 3.4 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.2 for those who qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. The athlete must also have competed in a minimum of five dates of competition.
