Four Tornado selected Conference Carolinas Freshmen of the Month

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University had four individuals honored when Conference Carolinas announced their Freshmen of the Month on Friday. The Tornado swept the awards in tennis and golf with Rhys Halcrow and Deniz Aytun taking the tennis awards and Åasmund Norum and Tess Larsson winning the golf awards.

Halcrow helped the men's tennis team win a pair of duals in October against regional rivals Milligan University and Emory & Henry College. He won all of his singles and doubles matches in the month, starting with a 7-5 No. 2 doubles win over Carter Rigsby and Marcos Moreno of Milligan. In singles play against Milligan, Halcrow defeated Nathan Smiley 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 at the second flight.

Against Emory & Henry he earned a 6-1 No. 2 doubles win over Brandon McGuire and Corey Garrity. Playing at No. 2 singles he defeated Archer Marlow 6-3, 6-1 to cap his perfect fall season. He was selected Conference Carolinas Player of the Week following the sweep of Emory & Henry.

Aytun had a big month for the women's tennis team, taking home Conference Carolinas Player of the Week following a win over Milligan University. In the dual she topped Kaitlin Barrett 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. She then earned a pair of wins over Emory & Henry College. At No. 1 doubles she helped defeat Payton Holt and Sabina Chernega 6-1. Playing at No. 1 singles, Aytun defeated Chernega 6-1, 6-2 to cap a solid fall season.

In two tournaments for the men's golf team this month, Norum finished 46th at the Queens Fall Invitational after shooting 215 and 27th at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate after shooting 218. The score at the Queens Invite is his career-low 54-hole score. In the fall finale at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate he posted season-low round of 67 in the second round. For the month he had two rounds of par or better.

Larsson took home finishes of 56th and 15th in two tournaments for the women's golf team in October. She started with rounds of 83 and 81 for a tournament total of 164 at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational to take 56th. She then posted her best tournament score of the season, 153, to finish 15th at the Music City Invitational. She carded an 81 in the opening round before firing a career-low round of even-par 72 in the second round.
