MURFREESBORO, N.C. – After an overtime victory over Chowan University last night, the Tornado fell to the Hawks this afternoon. King dropped the second game of a back-to-back, losing by a final score of 83-71.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- The Tornado got off to a hot start, making three of their first four shots. The trio of Trinity Lee, Kiki Samsel and Ali Golden all knocked down a shot with 90 seconds to give King the early lead.
- Chowan crawled back from a brief deficit to tie the game at 12 midway through the first quarter.
- A quick 4-0 spurt gave the Tornado a lead that they did not relinquish for the remainder of the period and led 20-17 after the first 10 minutes of play.
Second Period
- The two teams traded baskets for the first few possessions of the second quarter.
- Chowan then went on a 21-4 run to take a 42-27 lead with 1:05 remaining in the half.
- A Ryleigh Fritz triple trimmed the deficit to 12 points. That was the closest the Tornado came for the rest of the half as they went into the locker room down 45-30 at the half.
Third Period
- Much like the start of the second quarter, the two teams came out of the break trading baskets.
- The Tornado went on a run of their own down the stretch of the third quarter. King outscored Chowan 18-6 to trim the deficit to five as they trailed 55-50 with just 55 seconds remaining in the period.
- The Hawks scored the last basked of the quarter to take a 57-50 lead heading into the final period of play.
Fourth Period
- King opened the final quarter with a shot from beyond the arc via Samsel. Her shot put the score at 57-53 but four points was as close as the Tornado got for the remainder of the game.
- The Hawks responded with a 7-1 run in route to reestablishing a double-digit lead.
- Chowan continued to make timely shots down the stretch and iced the game with free throws to finalize the score at 83-71 and even the score for the weekend.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Lee led the Tornado with a game-high 21 points to accompany six rebounds and a pair of assists.
- Golden added 19 points with four rebounds and four assists.
- Samsel finished the contest with 15 points.
FOR THE FOES
- Keibra Hopkins led the Hawks in scoring with 17 points. She added three rebounds and two assists.
- Destiny Robinson posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
- Demetria Bland tallied 15 points to go along with a rebound and two assists.
- Aniah Patterson also recorded a double-digit scoring day as she recorded 11 points.
- Monique Jones flirted with a double-double as she posted eight points and 10 rebounds.
